The Vari-Grind 2 is designed to sharpen spindle and bowl gouges like the original Vari-Grind, but it restrains tool motion in two directions. The side to side motion is captured to keep the tool from sliding off the grinding wheel. Unlike the original Vari-Grind, the pivot point is restrained to increase accuracy.

The Vari-Grind 2 also features a cylindrical grinding motion that does not deviate from the center line. This makes it easy to make perfect side grinds and fingernail grinds. The tool is secured using a padded bearing clamp system for ease of use.
