These tools are used for hollowing into end grain or face grain, while working through the smaller opening in closed form vessels. When making closed shaped vessels, first a depth hole is drilled, then it is enlarged by using the Probe Tool, then the Swan Neck Tool is used to hollow out further to form the sides of the vessel. We offer two sizes of Probe and Swan Neck Tools, one pair with 3/8" diameter shanks and the other with 1/2" diameter. Each of the 3/8" tools has one replaceable high speed steel cutter. The 1/2" Probe and Swan Neck Tools each come with one replaceable bullet cutter for roughing and a replaceable ball end cutter for smoothing cuts. Each tool can be sharpened on a grinder or with a diamond hone . The overall length of the 3/8" diameter tool is 20". The 1/2" tool measures 24" overall. Maximum Project size for the 3/8" tools is approx. 5-1/2". The maximum of the 1/2" tools is 7".
